The Musiland 03US I use was manufactured after the implementation of the “anti-piracy” license key thing. At that time it was advertised as something you had to do once for older hardware and never to have to do for newer hardware. When I tried to update the driver to version 2.3.0.0 (March 2012) and now to version 2.4.0.0 (September 2012) I get a “license invalid” message and the device cannot operate.

I requested and received a license that enabled the use 2.3.0.0. I am currently in the process of requested a new license for 2.4.0.0 The procedure for requesting a license is straight forward and is documented below after the driver installation instructions.

You just need a bit patience. If your device is working, the new version may or may not make any difference. Does not function. DRIVER INSTALLATION (From the 1- Close all applications that are using the Musiland device 2- Quit the Musiland application/control panel (right click on the icon and “exit”) 2- Uninstall driver (with the Musiland device plugged in) by using the Musiland uninstall program in the Musiland folder 3- Unplug Musiland device.

(To reset the device) 4- Restart computer 5- Install new driver 6- Plug Musiland device 7- Wait for Windows to complete installation of driver 8- Reboot (recommended but I found not necessary) Notes: “Device unplugged” message is “normal”. Normal means that I’ve never seen it being successful and drivers do work. Successful install: DEVICE AUTHORIZATION (From An authorization process was implemented by Musiland a while ago (around 2010). This was done to prevent unauthorized use of the driver in potential clone implementations of the hardware. Apparently (as of March/April 2012) a new authorization license has been introduced by Musiland in the newer release of the driver (version 2.3.0.0 and up) preventing even recent hardware such as the Musiland 03 that I purchased on July of 2011 to work with the new driver. The official instructions do not say that a new authorization license but the large number of invalid authorization posts in the forums seem to indicate that this is new. If everything would be right, could I listen any music from internet radio, or cd, or any media without convert it to any other form of data? Sorry for my English. Anyway, I got the beta version from this site, since the driver on the cd which came with didn’t work at all. I installed the MlCyMon2.3.0.0build20120413 beta driver, but I came back to MlCyMon2.3.0.0build20120302, because the sound was too dry in my opinion with my Monitor 03 US (RCA out), SMSL SA-S3 ampli, ProAc Minitowers speakers. I use foobar2000 WASAPI on a Windows 7 sp.1 64bit PC and the Monitor 03 US is conneccted trough a USB 3.0.

I listened to 24-bit 88KHz music and I prefer the MlCyMon2.3.0.0build20120302 sound; maybe it’s just a matter of taste or maybe “beta” impressions Ciao, Egidio. I’ve install 4 different MUSILANDs on three different computers with absolutely no issues, other then a defect unit out of the box, that they replaced for free – no questions asked. I installed a Musiland Monitor 01, 03 USD, 02 Dragon, 03 Dragon. On my Windows 7 system I was even able to run two units at once The 03 USD and 03 Dragon, with no issues (the driver software is compatible with all their units it appears).

They both appear in both the Jplay options or using just Foobar the Output option. I can move from one to the other easily. The 03 Dragon even accepts DxD files (24/354K) and output the analog nicely.

It sounds great! I’m completing my review of all the unit.

What do you need the manual for? The Musiland Dashboard is pretty self explanatory. 3 days later( Mold 02 worked 2 years on this usb connection ).connected the DRAGON to another usb connection on my 4 year old HP laptop.guess whatit worksinstallation went smooth I can open the musiland control panel, see musiland back in foobar “device”.

One little problem remains LICENSE INVALID.and its Saturday so have to be patient till Monday at least. The instruction Device serial number (ML-XXXXXXXXXX) -Should be on a sticker on the device ( OK ) Device model (e.g. Musiland 03 US) ( OK ) License.dat as an attachment to the email ( NOT OK ) You may write “License Invalid” in the subject line ( OK ) If I attach ( copy) the license DAT to the email I can not send it. With the snippingtool I made a visual copy Does this work perhaps? PLEASE HELP I am a simple music lover not a computer nerd.

I miss my music. Making your own wii themes. No I have no idea whyjust a google message showing up, can not send I was probable too messed up not being able to install those drivers. Saturday evening 8 o’clock I had an answer from musiland, could one way or the other send that email with the attached DAT file and within the hour I had the key and I could.finally.listen to music ( thanks a lot for your help Musiland employee to do that on your Saturday evening) I know now what went wrong installing My HP laptop ( vista ) has a problem with its usb’s. ( According to the mail I received from a friend more vista laptops have this problem ) I used the usb connection were my old MM 02 worked on for 2 years without any problem. I was not able to install the dragon using this usb. I didnt find musiland back in the components from foobar and couldnt open the musiland control panel.

After fighting for 3 days I just connected the Dragon to another usb and the job was done in 5 minutes Anyway, after fighting for days the Dragon was tamed and I could FINALLY listen to MUSIC It needs some burning in and it sounds a bit raw, but its very promising. Lots of tiny musical details are audible already and a beautiful wide and deep soundscape and even in ASIO very stable no hick ups, no nothing just music. Thats where this device is about. So please Musiland An English manual next time. The sound of the 03 US Dragon is better and definitely worth the price to upgrade, if you’re using it as a DAC.

In fact, it is THE screaming bargain in Hi-End audio today (I’m always looking outstanding Hi-End audio at consumer prices), the other being the incredible Bada 3.3 Purer Class A Hybrid Amp. I’m finishing an extensive review of all the new Musiland interfaces. The 03 Dragon as a DAC has a more refined, more dynamic presentation.

The 03 excels over the 02 by leaps. In fact, it has become my reference DAC when playing Very Hi-Res L2 files (352K naive) and my archived LPs(176k and 192K) in Foobar (with the SOX set to 2X upsampling).

Although I usually prefer my tube DACs, for a solid state unit it really sounds good. Liquid, musical, dynamic (not quite on a par with the tube units), good sound stage (again the tube units excel here). But when running at 352K or 384k it is very close in sound to the same files running at 176k or 192k through the 03 Monitor/tube DAC. I’m running my 03 Dragon and Monitor on USB 2.0 using a AQVOX linear PS. The 02 has the advantage of a separate PS input, which I’m using a Acopian linear PS.

I just wish it the 03 Dragon had a spdif digital output like the 02 Dragon. I have not tested the Toslink or Musilink outputs (hate Toslink too limited and have no Musilink/Spdif converter – is there one?). A suggestion to Musiland – on the 03 Dragon ditch the Toslink and put in a Spdif (either RCA of BNC) digital out. Right now I have the Monitor 03 running as my interface to my tube DACs and the 03 Dragon as a separate DAC. This necessitates having to have an additional high end USB 2.0 cable (using the excellent Cardas now) and another AQVOX PS. I have not had a chance to compare the headphone output on the two Dragons.

I do like the “analog” volume knob, which controls the headphone output on the 02 Dragon, so I’m using mine for travel. It’s just more convenient to adjust then opening the screen. I will leave the full review – it has take awhile, do to some other projects and the many variable to sift through.

My comparison of the Monito 03 and Dragon 03 will be against the M2Tech EVO with the Acopian linear PS. So far initial listening (after 250 hours break in on the 03 Monitor) is very promising – I would call the Monitor 03 a dead heat with the EVO.

Each a little different. That is another reason the review is taking so long – I want to really nail the subtle differences. I also had some initial issues getting my SOtM tX-USB card to work on my main system (Windows Vista unfortunately) I would like to crack open all the boxes and post the pictures – is there an upload link? QwertyBoy Well yes both are considered SPDIF, but they are not the same. Electro/optical converters typically used in Toslink are inferior, as least as far as sound is concerned – in my somewhat broad experience is concerned.

Which is strange, considering the inherent galvanic isolation with optical. I never heard or read a review where a DAC sounded better fed from it’s Toslink input. The issue of bandwidth is also important – it seems many interfaces are limited to 96K on the optical while doing 192k easily on the RCA/BNC. When I said S/PDIF I was of course referring to RCA/BNC – sorry for the confusion;-). I’ve had good success with Kernel Streaming, followed by the Musiland ASIO. I don’t use WASAPI as I’m trying to avoid the windows audio stack completely (I don’t remember if that was “fixed” in 7). Both are working quite well with Foobar and the SOX upsampler (best one I have found and FREE) – allowing settings to be adjusted on the fly, with no hick-ups (Win 7 and Vista 64).

Both sound great – with the edge to KS (a bit more dynamic and a touch less veiled). And both complete bypass Windows native audio processing (which can really make a mess of things). Have not had a chance to really play with the latency settings in ASIO to listen for differences. Running 260ms now with no skipping, noise or latency issues – even on the really large high res files.

My biggest debate is with JPLAY – not very user friendly – that’s for sure. It uses the PC RAM as an audio RAM buffer – so creates issues with my large Hi Res files (even with 8GB).

JPLAY won’t play until the entire audio file is loaded into memory – then it shuts down the hard drive. JPLAY takes the KS concept a step further in completely taking over memory, disc and system app functions. This can cause long latency issues and system crashes.

Theoretically it is the purest available. On a Vista machine it’s almost impossible to run without lockups, in my experience. It does sound good – but so does Foobar with the SOX upsampler on 44K files. They are very close. The Foobar/SOX is so much easier to use and is rock solid and FREE.

As my 12,000 song collection is mostly in Redbook, this is a huge advantage. Using SOX, I upsample to 176k, with the settings on High bit rate, linear filtering (50%), 95% Passband, and allow aliasing. The sound is much better then running without upsampling.

This has been the case in every DAC I have tried it with. The most notable difference, the sound is much more musical, with better dynamics and greater detail. This is something I have been closely examining for years – since I built my first server in 2006. There are other free upsamplers out there as well. And the sound seems to improve even when using DACs with their own built in chip based upsampling. My thinking is the upsampling uses interpolation to smooth the step function nature of 16/44 digital sampling.

It does not do much on my 176k or 192k hi res files – they sound the same! Anyone use 8 yet – I’m about to make the plunge on my Vista 64 sever ( would really like to wait for SP1 first!).

Still researching the compatibility with Foobar, SOX, Musiland Drivers, etc Sorry for the long post:). Cure for License key invalid with regard to Musiland drivers for Musiland Monitor 01 USD. I had an occurrence of “license key invalid” which I solved by uninstalling the driver, looking through the Windows registry (using the regedit facility) and deleting a reference to MUSILAND in HKEYCURRENTUSER that was persisting even after the uninstallation. (You may want to set a restore point before messing with this stuff.) Then when I reinstalled from the CD I was able to get the driver running with the “license key invalid” no longer showing in the dashboard window.

All seems to be working well. Oddly when letting the Musiland wizard run I got a complaint that escalation was needed, whatever that means, but I went directly to the driver folder and ran Setup.exe directly.

I am sorry, I do not know which version of the drivers are on the CD or how to find out. There is a windows installer file, but nowhere do I see the driver software itself. The CD came with my Monitor 01 USD and so I use it. I cannot explain why the problem occurred in the first place. I was not changing drivers, or anything. One day it worked, and the next it did not. I was worried about manually editing the registry and was surprised that it worked.

I don’t actually know much about these inner workings of Windows (I am running W7). It seemed logical to me that if I had uninstalled Musiland drivers that there should be no entries, so I got rid of them. Do that stuff at your own risk, I don’t claim to know much about it. It is black magic to me.

Be forewarned if you try it. Maybe I was just lucky. Finally got it: took 9 days. The person who sent me the key claimed that their initial email got blocked by my Yahoo account. I’m glad that now I can enjoy my new toy. Sounds great via analog. The built-in headphones amp is not bad either (good for travel).

I’ve configured my f2k for proper dsd/dsdiff playback, and although down-sampled/converted to pcm, I had a blast last night listening to dsd (mostly Blue Coast and 2L) stuff at 32Bit/352.8kHz. Better then my old Monitor 01 USD. Understand that best consolidation loanss are offered everywhere. I can’t destroy him physically but I will ruin him in every other way.

Carloans-forall could positively allow you to either search through a database of lenders that you can only have ONE loan against any ONE car. Another example is when a person needs a vehicle and you are been turned down else where, just apply directly to the no credit check best consolidation loanss. Compare the rates offered by lenders so that you are not alone. :: This happens if you set the Sample Rate Selector more than 192KHz.

Foobar2000 works anyway. Try 192KHz for Youtube, Windows and so on. 352,8 and 384 is working fine with latest official driver.

On browsers you had to use 11.2.202.233 version of adobe flash and when using foobar and directsound you first set your sample rate to lower and start your song and then upsample it to maxinum. But I prefer WASAPI for foobar. I’ll try 11.2.202.233 version of adobe flash: thanks for this tip. I already use WASAPI with foobar2000:-).
